iPowers asked:

Ok they tell us to turn off all portible electronics, why do they make you turn off everything. I can see cell phones, computers, things that have wirless connections, but why other stuff like ipods, Nintnedo DS, Game Boy, etc. off it doesn’t have a connection or wouldn’t even do anything to interfere with the airplane, right?

To be consistent. And possibly they send off some kind of wave that might interfere - who knows what plane computers pick up?

An landing why you ask because its those two times during take off and the airline wants your gameboy or whatever.
The distractions of an landing why you need to hear without the distractions of your gameboy or whatever.

This question always bugs me the answer is simple in the old days of cell phones it MIGHT I say MIGHT have interfered with air ground communication it wouldn’t have bothered any of the navigational aids because the ground transmitters would overpower any interference generated by the equipment.

Here is the real reason it is because stupid people like to listen to and play with their devices when they aren’t supposed to. Arrivals and Departures are the most critical part of the flight if something goes wrong the cabin crew need you to follow their instructions. Also if you are playing with your PSP or lap top this now becomes another missile in the cabin in the case of a hard landing or turbulance.
